With the emergence of full screen, there is no greater change in any field than in fingerprint identification. The more area the display occupies, the less area other accessories occupy. In addition, few users want the rear fingerprint identification. So the front Under-Display/In-display demands come into being. In the meantime, Under-Display/In-display is the most competitive weapon to break the homogeneity of the full screen. It can be said that both terminal manufacturers and consumers are looking forward to the arrival of the under display.
Under-Display/In-display technology greatly enhances ID design flexibility. Fingerprint identification is fully integrated into the AMOLED screen. Currently, most Under-Display/In-displays launched in the market are required to adopt OLED screens. Under the general trend of industrial structural adjustment in the global market, South Korea’s SAMSUNG, LG, Japan’s JDI and Sharp, which are led by Hon Hai, all increased their investment to expand AMOLED production line. Mainland panel makers have stepped up the deployment of small and medium-sized AMOLED markets since last year. Among them, local panel makers, such as BOE, TIANMA, GVO, EVERDISPLAY OPTRONIC, TRULY, CSOT, are aggressively building 4.5, 5.5, 6 generation AMOLED panel production lines. It is predicted that between 2017 and 2019 AMOLED panel production lines around the world will be gradually in mass production. The rapid development of OLEDs indicates that more screen resources will be available to provide support and development for the Under-Display/In-display technology.
It is expected that in 2018 there will be some new Under-Display/In-display machines unveiled and that a more pure full-screen model is coming. With the in-dept application of Under-Display/In-display, there will be a fingerprint application trend in 2018 as the first year of the application of Under-Display/In-display. Therefore, Under-Display/In-display is expected to lead mobile device reform of the new generation, bringing significant innovation and opportunities for the smart phone market.
